It’s a Paw-ty!

An otherwise normal Saturday morning turned out to be a furry one for 40 beneficiaries when they turned up at BTSS first-ever pet therapy session on 1 Oct 2022.

The natural cuteness factor of the dogs elicited the ohhs and ahhs from the participants. While many were contented to just pat the dogs, there were a handful who carried them like babies! There was an origami station where participants folded dog crafts. Everyone waited patiently for their opportunity to take pictures with the adorable dogs at the special photo booth.

It was also a time for our members to rekindle relationships since they haven’t seen each other for close to 3 years. It was heartwarming to see new faces mingling and chatting with the older members.

A shout out to Fabian, the lead volunteer for this event. Special thanks to Crane for letting us use their venue at Robertson Quay. And of course, this would not be possible without the participation from the dog owners and the dogs. Woof! woof!

Youths at Play @ Playnation

After their first outing as a group, our BTSS youths powered up and organised a second outing on 28 December 2020.  This time, they decided on an afternoon of gaming at Playnation @ Scape in Orchard.  The 10 youths split into 2 groups and met up at Orchard MRT before proceeding to the gaming haven where you could indulge in electronic games, as well as, good old board games.

One of the participants Qin Han shared the following :

“The afternoon at Playnation was pretty fun . They had a wide selection of games that we enjoyed. The free flow snacks was nice as well. Personally liked Mario kart and Mario party, as more players are able to be involved. Wouldn’t mind coming back again. Their baked rice dishes items aren’t that great. Would suggest eating elsewhere first if possible.”

Let’s hope the COVID19 situation will improve and our youths could organise more activities in 2021!

BTSS x Solaris Games Day 7 Sep 2020

A group of student volunteers from Hwa Chong Institution turned an otherwise quiet September school holiday fun for our young BTSS members.  On 7 September 2020, 9 of our children participated in a virtual games event specially designed by the volunteers.  Through the games, they went around the world, challenged one another in a “Where’s Wally?” type of hunt and mused over the varied riddles thrown at them.  As an observer of the event, I found myself having fun and felt like a kid all over again.  Big THANK YOU to Ian, Bingyan, Dylan, Wen Yao and Yi Zhong!

BTSS Christmas Party 2019

BTSS Christmas Party 2019 was a joyous occasion which saw a record turnout of more than 100 beneficiaries, volunteers and friends at KKH Staff Lounge on 14 Dec 2019. From 9 am, enthusiastic volunteers put up decorations and set up the tables and presents. We had 2 parallel events running – a children’s party that was led by the amazing volunteers from the NUS Community Service Club and the other by energetic Karishma who soon had everyone engaged and laughing together.  A big THANK YOU to Disney Singapore for the generous donation of merchandise.  Each child went home happily with a bag of surprises!  Special thanks to Smyth, Nam and some volunteers who blessed gifts for everyone, including delicious home-baked cookies.   It is so wonderful to see our BTSS family growing in size and even closer to each other as we work together on various programmes and advocacy projects for the betterment of our community.

2018 International Brain Tumour Awareness Week – 20-27 October

Did you know, the first International Brain Tumour Awareness Week was 10 years ago? It has been a decade since we have begun to raise global awareness for this deadly disease, but much work still remains.

The International Brain Tumour Awareness Week this year runs from 20 to 27 October 2018. As Singapore’s community of brain tumour beneficiaries and volunteers, BTSS stands together with all those whose lives are affected by brain tumours, whether they be patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, corporations and other stakeholders from around the world.

Come join us this year in our annual Brainy Car Rally to raise awareness about brain tumours through a slew of exciting activities. On 21 Oct 2018, Singapore’s Brain Tumour Awareness Day, stand with us and the rest of the world for the Brain Tumour cause.

BIG NEWS: BTSS is now Morgan Stanley’s Core Charity Partner!

Dear BTSS Family

I am thrilled and proud to announce that BTSS has been selected by Morgan Stanley Singapore as their 2018 & 2019 core charity partner (I hear thundering applause and lots of cheers coming from you guys as I write this).

Morgan Stanley would be our very first corporate partner coming after four years of hard work since our establishment in March 2014. Like me, you must be very heartened that we now have a strong global bank supporting BTSS in fund raising and volunteerism. What’s more encouraging is that the Morgan Stanley staff, whom I have met, resonate with our brain tumour cause and are eager to help BTSS make meaningful contributions that will yield greater impact on our community.

As this marks a significant milestone for BTSS, our brain tumour cause and community, I am sure you would agree that a special celebration is in order. To do this, let’s all gather on the 12 May 2018 for the Morgan Stanley Charity Walkathon. Morgan Stanley’s leaders, employees and families will be raising funds for BTSS though this event and they have invited all our BTSS patients and families to join them on this joyous occasion to kick start our partnership.

Details of the event are as follows:

 Morgan Stanley Charity Walkathon

 Date: Saturday, 12 May 2018
 Time: 7.45am to 11.30 am
Venue: Bedok Reservoir Park, Tentage next to Carpark B (Nearest MRT: Bedok or Bedok Reservoir MRT )

Light refreshment and water will be catered.

Please register your attendance by calling Eric on 62912736 or email him at eric@braintumoursociety.org.sg by 23 April 2018.

I look forward to you coming down to celebrate our important milestone partnership with Morgan Stanley (while getting some good exercise too).

 See you there!
